Rachmaninov & Hollywood
Sunday, January 25, 2009, 3:00 pm
Shattuck Auditorium
Lara St. John, violin
Rachmaninov, Rubinstein, Piatagorsky, Horowitz, Schoenberg and Stravinski...we forget who Los Angeles in the 1940s was the great refuge for so many of the greatest European musicians of the day. We pay tribute to the men and their music with a gorgeous evening in Hollywood of that time: from actual classic movie scores of the era, to the autumnal glory of Rachmaninov's late Third Symphony, to the very cinematic Violin Concerto by one of the great Viennese masters who became one of the great Hollywood film composers, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, with the irrepressible Lara St. John as soloist.
Please bring non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry of Waukesha County.
