Dear Friends:
Welcome to the exciting new 2009-2010 season, A Musical Odyssey. Times are tough everywhere, but the need for
music, and its message, has never been greater. Orchestras everywhere talk of suddenly larger, more enthusiastic
audiences. To me, it's no mystery as to why this is occurring. The miracle of making music, great music, gives us a special kind of solace that we can find nowhere else. In bringing great music to life for you at the Waukesha Symphony, it is a
feeling that I certainly share with you.
Other orchestras, here and throughout the land, have ceased operations. We, on the other hand, have tightened our belts, and offer to you a WSO season that truly brings the music back to the community of Waukesha County. This
season we traverse the county in our concert halls, making our debuts at both the fabulous new Oconomowoc
Arts Center as well as Elmbrook Church, along with a
long-overdue return to the charm and comfort of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in downtown Waukesha.
In addition to world-class soloists such as the brilliant violinist Maria
Bachmann, we also celebrate our equally brilliant Shining Stars, our competition-winning young musicians from right here in our community. Our repertoire will range from the sublime heights of Joseph Haydn's "Heiligmesse", in the splendor of St John's Chapel, to a joyous pops concert at
Shattuck Auditorium celebrating the service of our men and women in uniform, right around Veterans' Day. It is truly a
season for all to
cherish, and in that spirit I warmly invite you to join us.
Sincerely Yours,

Alexander Platt, Music Director
